Your Decisions: the Fuel for Daily Productivity

January 21, 2015 | Filed under: rita

I just heard the “beep” from my notebook when new Emails are coming in, via Outlook.  One article was about our daily decisions and the related productivity!  I was curious…..

Now this is what I was reading and it´s so interesting that I want to share it with you.

The short email message was about the decisions we make day in, day out at our computer, and that those decisions are the KEY to productivity.  I am an Automotive girl, so I translate the word “key” into “fuel”:  A key turns a lock, but fuel makes us or our car drive.  Fuel makes us move and decisions shall move us forward to productivity!

To get a new and shiny focus on decision making the writer of the article connected decisions to our WILLpower.  A great maneuver!  And it´s another clever move to put WILLpower in the same drawer of currency, like $ and € and YEN, each a payment method in different countries.  Still both are an abstract but now two lose ends are connected.

We can look at this idea from 2 sides:

If we have a certain “amount” of WILLpower in our daily wallet and we use this amount as a 1:1 payment when making decisions we probably start thinking about what we really DO with our decisions when we spent them like a currency.

But – what do we buy with WILLpower when we make daily “purchase” decision?  What if our WILLpower daily tells us to buy the (incoming) information as a decision to:  read emails, blogs and online articles because we need to be informed for making other decisions and to learn in general?  As a result, we lack productivity in those moments or hours, at first sight.

Only if we attach the info to our new decisions the next day, we turn productive with our WILLpower.

But what happens when we run out of this WILLpower in terms of …. maybe our HEALTH?  When we´re suddenly bankrupt of WILLpower?  What´s left is that we fall back to the last decision we made when we still had the currency of “a last possible” decision.  This entails that we will repeat (doing or eating) what we decided for when we used the last remaining WILLpower cent.

Oops!

What if that decision was made 6 months or 6 years ago?  We probably act outdated, due to a grown-up habit.

Oops!

The idea of a daily limited WILLpower makes me think!  When I begin my workshops I talk about a decision as a mechanism which everyone of us is holding in our hands.  I add the info, that as a decider we execute self-direction!  As single results, we turn ourself productive or inproductive – whatever we plan and do!

The clue for you today is that you might think about your decisions as a new but LIMITED currency led or paid by your daily WILLpower.  And it´s limited because it´s related to our energy.

Now get the original idea here from Eben Pagan:  http://wakeup.getaltitude.com/introducing-wakeup-productive/

……and have a great year with your new discovered WILLpower currency –

BE A DECISION MAKER.  BECOME OUTSTANDING.

I believe decisions and discipline are interconnected. I guess in a way that’s willpower. I think of my ‘will’ as being rather fickle though because my will is based on feelings. Discipline says regardless of how I feel about it, I’m going to take charge and make good on my decision.
