Webster´s 9th Dictionary explains DECISION from the Latin word: decidere = to cut off. De*sid: to arrive at a solution that ends uncertainty.
Decision Making is one of the defining characteristics of Leadership. Managers and Leaders are paid for their Decision Making. On the way to get there you have to learn making high-quality decisions.
The result of your decision is the fact that all uncertainties are cut off. That´s what you want to reach when you decide to make a new decision. But what about our traditional leadership styles or roles? I talk about the ones who are dictatorial compared to the cooperative style –
DID YOU READ THE NEWS? Both styles are leaving the stage. They retire, they don´t belong here anymore. Society quit their jobs!
I think it´s good because within a second from now on we don´t think about dictators in business anymore. Dictators had their roles in pure hierarchy and within dependencies. And it was good and necessary. It worked well and we took our lessons learned from their style.
Today it´s not really about who leads best as a stand-out role model, the time is asking us rather how to keep up with our market share and how to grow our market. The growing and overtaking internet business is offering direct collaboration between the business owner and the customers. The role of the trade vanished already. Marketing vanished, good-bye. Hello future: know all about it, do all about it, be a self-made leader – here we are in the present future.
Collaborating is relevant because your online decisions effect your customers, and they do effect them directly. The new rules are displaying the clear “take it or leave it” factors. The mild grey zone, the negotiating stage of communicating push and pull, isn´t allowed anymore to be among the black and white decisions. Negotiating is what the biz owner has to deal with: it´s their task to find out what the customer needs, wants, will decide to do soon and what he decides for next week. The customer decisions and reactions are the big uncertainties each business owner has to deal with nowadays.
How can you handle this?
Have a niche, like each big company has departments – it´s their niches to grow the BIG.
Have a certain product, have a certain customer group. Turn BIG into your own small. Create your own little puzzle piece and serve on that stage only. To do so – that´s YOUR decision.
BE A DECISION MAKER. BECOME OUTSTANDING.
