Decision Makers get things done and automatically add new tasks to their To-Do list.
I think this describes it very well. But how about you?
- Do you get all tasks done which are on your list?
- Do you reach all goals?
- Is your team working effectively?
If you doubt this now, even if just a little, it´s definitely time to check and test your decision-mentality and also the decider-mentalities of your team. Isn´t it your goal to finish (almost) all your tasks and projects by the end of the day, week, month and year? Isn´t it your goal to constantly gain strength and growth – in life and in your biz?
Yes, tactical Decision Making is “quite” easy! It just concerns the short-term decisions – the fast ones which do not require so much thought before we confidently say “yes ” or “no”, depending on the result and outcome we wish to reach….. With tactical Decision Making we enjoy the luxury of feeling no weight, there is no escorting pressure of time and we seem to know the answer without even thinking about it for too long.
THE PHONE RINGS: “Hey, it´s me! Listen, I have a ticket for tonight, are you free? Would you like to join me?” WHAT do you do first? Yes, you check your plans for tonight and then listen to the offer.
YOU´RE IN THE OFFICE: “We have a visitor, she´s from the ….. magazine and asks us for a short- short interview.” WHAT do you do first? Yes, you check your plans for the next 20 minutes and then you ask for the interview topic.
Tactical decisions are those we clearly answer with “yes” and “no” because they might fit in the gap. We can take such quick decisions only because the long-term decisions, followed with their occupied time-plan allow some space to go along. Most short-term decisions become the doer of a “yes” or the victim of a “no”. Giving a clear “no” doesn´t really hurt anyone, it doesn´t destroy any cost-loaded projects nor does it harm anybodies schedule. A “yes” is a gift!
It´s different of course with strategic decisions – which is the topic of the next BLOG-post – so stay tuned!
BE A DECISION MAKER. BECOME OUTSTANDING.
