I am a big fan of success stories and the people who are trying to do it “differently” than before! I am also a big fan of movies, simply because I learn visually best.
Some of you my dear readers, and some of my customers may argue that we seldom sit down before we make a decision to take a look at the single components in detail. “No time, not necessary…..” If we can afford it, fine – but often it is necessary to know which consequences we will deal with for a while and how we are going to influence our future.
We have the freedom thou´ to act and decide spontaneously when there is already a decision process and when we think about a small deviation of it! For example, when we know that something is going to happen with a certain result and outcome but we plan and hope to get a different result now, once we do it differently than before. Too abstract? Okay, here´s what I choose for you as an example for a spontaneous decision:
>> CALENDAR GIRLS (movie, 2003)
If you haven´t heard about this movie pls. consider reading about it in Wikipedia, here:
What caused the spontaneous decision with the different result? Let´s take a deeper look in detail:
BASICS: they were members of a club and belonged to a fix group in a village, also being friends with many members, made it more easily. They shared similar hobbies and the families knew each other.
CAUSE: fate struck the life of one woman and this suddenly changed it all. She had to deal with a sudden loss (death of her husband) and had the feeling to do something about an uncomfortable situation in the hospital.
EFFECT: one of the women in her inner circle suddenly gets an idea in the garage workshop downtown and takes the decision to talk about it in the group and get this idea going! She includes a strong charity mindset but aims at something new.
OBJECT: a potential product to produce, and the idea of improvement, here: the calendar for the next year! She has the idea to produce a special edition with different photos.
PERFORMANCE: she talks to her friends and finds direct supporters who agree to do it with her! The next steps were well thought through by them, mainly to get a successful result:
- involve an expert – a photographer
- decide to do it (group of women)
- stand-up for the deicison and fight for the permission (club committe)
- organize group execution (photos)
- involve the press (leave the local zone)
- accept the offer from L.A. and visit Hollywood (gain more supporters for the charity project)
There wasn´t much to lose for them: the year before the calender sales brought-in 57 Pounds but now they needed a sponsor to widen the project, because the leather sofa cost about 800 to 1,000 Pounds (I think), so they needed a different strategy than in the years before. The trigger for this all was the death of the husband of one of the women. It was their energy.
…… and this charity project never ended! Still, those successful women produce new calendars and by now raised more than 2 Mio. Pounds, although the original idea was to buy a new sofa for the ward.
If you ask yourself now why I write a blog-post about it, let me come up with this potential answer: spontaneous decisions can change a lot positively!
It´s not always about the small things in life when we act spontaneously, like buying some different food today, or going to a new restaurant tomorrow. It can be something bigger but we can best perform when there is a process available which only needs a little spontaneous correction! If you´re spontaneous because you think of a different outcome from a running process, you need a good plan to follow and a great performance to become successful!
I hope this example leaves some spontaneous sparks for you . . . . . .
BE A DECISION MAKER. BECOME OUTSTANDING.
