Something has Changed!
We lived through times when decisions were made by dictators, ruled top down. As a result, the nation didn´t make the decisions actively. The nation passively took and actively lived with the consequences which resulted from the decision.
Then we entered a time when we were allowed to make decisions which led us into a certain direction we chose to go.
In the meantime we live in abundance. Decision makers mainly don´t choose to individually lead people (unless it´s their job-task), they tend to choose to sort and group people. Decisions are made in matters of affiliation, membership and (social) belonging:
Doctors make decisions at night, about who (of those who come to the hospital and ask for an immediate treatment) to sent home and who is going to stay, over night. Alternatively, whom to sent over to another hospital which has capacity. Sorting in or out, by their criteria and visual examination.
Lawyers make tough decisions about who to sent back home and who´s going to stay for imprisonment on remand, when they are not sure whether the person is guilty or not. Sorting in or out, by their criteria and interviews.
We don´t choose by dilemma (di = 2) anymore, which was the typical “yes” to A and a clear “no” to B. The dilemma action was survival related: take it or flee. FAST! Survival decisions had to be done fast.
Today, often we have a 3d or even 4th alternative available to choose from, which gets us to sorting the options into a ranking. Now, we decide with what to start and what is going to follow next, creating a process of activities. By now, we don´t lack options, mostly we lack information about the outcome. Will the activity lead me directly towards my goal?
It´s the complexity that makes it so difficult to have a great guess on the result! It´s not up to our sorted activities anymore, that will guarantee the result we look for. To get a certain result we want, we have to check out the environment and the market to look for those who are into it.
Sorting and grouping!
I am quite sure that our decision-making activitites have changed over time. We are allowed to choose from abundance by sorting and grouping and that´s different from how we decided in the past.
On this account, decision-making becomes a powerful tool as a strategy to deal with or even fight (rare) dictatorship and its old dilemma scenarios.
You may think as well about WHAT the decsion-making method is useful for in your life and future!
BE A DECISION MAKER. BE OUTSTANDING.
