What do you do when your alarm clock starts ringing or beeping?
Yes, you turn it off and you go for action which can be:
- getting out of bed
- get dressed to leave for an appointment
- call someone
- book something important
- start with your breakfast or lunch
- pack your suitcase for the trip
Of course the main premise is TO SET the alarm clock!
That requires the knowledge and will of when it is time to do something or to take care of something. What – if you fell asleep a long time ago and your last decision became a long-term habit? Bad decisions reinforce themselves! Make sure to not get stuck in your past and re-live a daily Punxsutawney motion picture “life”.
As the movie delivered so faithfully over and over again, the moment we stop making (new) decisions we live on daily habits and such habits remove our intelligent decision capabilities. Habits only cause reactions, but not actions. We stop thinking of what we really DO the moment we undergo a habit process. It´s like living on automatism, more or less a lazy way to live.
When is the time to set the alarm clock – for change?
It can be QUARTERLY!
Idea: change the habit of what you buy and eat for breakfast quarterly! Change what you eat for breakfast every 3 months. Connect the decision to the season! You might allow yourself to eat a little more over winter and then lose some weight in spring. Design your breakfast! Exchange bread with toast, exchange toast with cereal or muesli. Exchange muesli with fresh fruit and scrambled eggs. Do the same for lunch and set the alarm clock for healthy meals!
Idea: change the habit of when to read and answer your Emails. You won´t do that every minute but maybe every 2 hrs. in case you wait for something important. You might do it every 3 hrs. only, then – set the alarm clock! Stay productive when it´s neccessary to keep going. Set your alarm clock for more productivity!
Idea: change the habit of how to spent your day in the (home)office! Where do you sit at your desk: Close to the window? At a wall? Is it time for change? Can you switch with a co-worker? Do you go for a 30 min. walk twice a week? You might change some habits every 2 or 6 months! It´s probably time to set your alarm clock for change, today –
All you need to do is make a few decisions more often! Keep making decisions – THINK AHEAD!
BE A DECISION MAKER. BE OUTSTANDING.
