A part-time job might be very attractive for the employee, especially when young children are at home and a parent wants to spend more time with the kids. That offers a huge advantage to every entre-preneur and any running company. Every part time employee “stays in touch” with the work and tasks and companies don´t run out of trained and competent employees.
Advantage: every company which implements this new system may offer a certain scope for design to give a chance for part time jobs. Creativity is never drying up on this stage. A company may offer a free time frame during the day “to come and go” for the concernd employee – if clients, colleagues and tasks allow to. All this needs to be accepted and signed by both parties in a new contract or an additional contract, plus: the employee has to make sure to follow the new rules and to take advantage of the new given opportunities. Hint: include a certain dismissal protection for this new contract.
It´s different when you hire employees only for a Fix Given Time Frame! This may be relevant for a given period of time because the conditions are fix for the company like a regular vacation time. Or it´s focussed internally on reaching a certain project goal which might last 4 to 6 months.
What´s to obey for making such a decision? Let´s do a quick check:
- You need to have space or an extra office for the people if they have to be internally involved
- Make sure the extra hired people have available plug-ins for their computers/notebooks
- Organize phones for them (!) offer cell-phones
- Have an internal phone list with all names ready for them
- Connect them with “alike” people from the 1st day on (be prepared!) – start with a flow
- ….. and so on !
In any case, if you have to make decision like these, take time to discuss it in detail. Always have a plan and answers! Therefore, consult experts or phone friends and partners to receive info about single steps and important hints, when you´re up for this for the 1st time.
