Managing Your Information
Information is knowledge and knowledge turns into intuition and intuiton is what supports our quick decision making ability. The better you manage your information, the more secure you get when deciding. No news? Right, no news. But a fact which is not to underestimate.
Lets run over the word information and see what it delivers to and contains for us:
INFORMATION = latin: informare = educate
The information is the structured aspect of physical INTERdependency which is action formative on complex systems like humans or on machines.
The information communicates a difference to the receiver. Information is invariable every transfer of material of energy or of impuls as form impressed. Its worth is interpreted by the complete event on various levels, partly conscious, mainly subconscious.
We reduce the information-quantity by using an algorithm to reject choices, we also filter it with our cognitive interest (does it belong to my topic?) or we expand the information-quantity via connection with more available or linked information.
Managing our information for decision making is about adding (expanding) or deleting (rejecting). We filter, we sort, we group all bits & bites of interesting aspects until we have enough information to decide quite “sure” for a good result. We can never be really sure but the more we know and manage the faster we will think and decide. It reduces the luxury of time we want or need.
At this point, I always have to think about how quick WE WILL DECIDE when driving fast on the Autobahn or Freeway and then we suddenly meet this cold realistic second where we have to avoid an unforeseeable potential accident.
If the hurdle (car, truck, animal) pops up in front of you say, in the middle lane, there is either right or left lane to turn. Now what do we do? We check both lanes within milli-seconds and look for the ideal spot to drive/speed/slow/jump into in hope to avoid the potential accident. This is a real fast way of information management by sorting, judging, deciding and doing. Almost all at once – boom, boom, boom, done! It´s the quickest decision we have to make and we will make. Ever been in such situation? Ever felt the pressure? It´s more challenging at night time, it pumps your adrenalin from 0 to 100 to run –
But we also manage our information quantity when preparing to write a book or a presentation. There´s first the brain storming, then sorting, adding some, expanding one topic, reducing the other, writing first chapters, then sorting chapters by logic – information management is extraordinary tightly linked to our decision making and it´s most relevant to the outcome.
BE A DECISION MAKER. BECOME OUTSTANDING.
