We can learn extra Decider Soft Skills!
Ever thought about it?
On one side decision-making is hard to handle because a decider is no active director over every scene which she or he causes when announcing a decision result and secondly, we don´t know how involved people react to the change a decider causes. Change is like a plot in a story where the value changes from 0% – 100% or vice versa. Deciders shouldn´t ask for full control over every act which follows their decision result. That mission is impossible.
Therefore deciders shall gain extra soft skills and today I point with the finger on Giving FEEDBACK and the PROCESS Thinking activity, which both should be included in a companies culture and values.
In the world of Quality-Management (Q.M.) we´re forced to create a map of all running processes which also interact. It´s a map for the overview. Working in and with processes needs a strong feedback culture. Interestingly, Quality-Mgmt. erases mainly the decision-acts (rhombs) to turn many (running) acts in becoming a process of function.
Q.M. claims that decisions are a source of 100 % failure. Tough declaration!
…… but probably true without any decision training.
It´s Quality-Management that offers the ISO 9001 Certificate. To bring it to a point, in Companies with running processes, where decisions and the skill of decision-making is quite erased, being a decider is a luxury skill. Deciding must be an official task of yours. Is it? And, to what degree?
Now Giving Feedback comes in to play: when you install some feedback-givers in the system, who get the details, who do research, who are open, who respect the culture, then you can feel quite save to get the relevant infos when you have to take a decision.
Giving feedback must be a task, discussed in the contract. Giving Feedback is part of decision-making and in a world of processes where none has to make any decision at all (will it ever become that slick?) you need to get information real fast to be able to make a relevant decision.
Both, Giving Feedback and installing Running Processes are deeply connected with one another, which is part of the ISO 9001 Certificate. Keep in mind: Quality-Mgmt. erases decision rhombs and as a result, it “robs” the necessary decision skill from the employees. Fact.
How about your current decison skills?
Do you own some of these soft skills for taking the next big decision?
BE A DECISION MAKER. BECOME OUTSTANDING.
