To gain more productivity with the aim to get a more efficient result at the end of the next year doesn´t mean planning to reduce labor cost or to reduce staff in 2014.
In the moment you set up the goal to increase your 2014 profit you can do the opposite of what the market trend is leading to and invest in your staff to pay them a higher salary. The point is, it´s not necessarily up to the certificate your hired people brought in – those who don´t offer a most welcome certificate can be educated by your company. Indoor training will help increase productivity as well, probably even better. You can adjust your expected bargain afterwards by extending their contracts for i.e. 3 more years from the moment they passed the valuable training. If you invest you shall keep the investment. This is how you build a strong company. I wouldn´t weaken it.
But this idea depends on how large your company is and if it´s a bigger one, then it depends on how many people are available for the extra training. You need ambitious folks. Think about it: who would be on your list for 2014?
Okay, here´s more to learn:
11] Organize Your Work Space
Your office, your desk, your drawers, your computer and screen: clear the desk and put the priority on top of your daily/weekly to-do file. You need to have overview when working actively. Organize the daily to-do´s on your desk: place them next to your keyboard, work top down. Maximum: 5 tasks. Know where you put things which are pending, set the date on top. Set the dates into your calendar as well. Work only at one task and finish it. Be concentrated. What´s done for good can be tossed right away. Have a to-do file: weekly fill it, weekly clear it. Have a printed list about what to keep and how long you need to keep it (administrative things). Follow this “things to keep”-list once per year, maybe in early December or early January do the check-up. Type this “check-up” task in your calendar – now.
12] Use Travel Time Productively
When you take the train to a customer- or plant meeting you can work on your presentation, answer Emails or make easy phone calls. Be careful when sharing confident information. Avoid it on the phone. When using the car, listen to learning CD´s. Turn your car into your own university. Audio learning is practical. You can do the same when being on the plane.
13] Get Better At Your Key Tasks
Increase the quality of your work: get better, follow up and become faster. See above.
14] Work In Real Time
Develop a fast tempo, develop urgency, make quick decisions (you need lots of information!), complete all quick jobs. Take it all immediately and solve it. Ask your boss if things are unclear, never hesitate to ask! It shows you´re interested to do a great job. Be the one who will get more tasks.
15] Reengineer Your Work
There is no multi tasking, all you can do is work rotational on various important things “at once” (means: within 1 hour) but that means interruption all the time. Worst case you expand your work time unless you´re really secure and fast with it. You can only do this with small tasks but it´s inefficient for you unless the situation asks for it. Sometimes it needs all to be done in the morning of one day. Yes! On the other hand you can´t finish it all in a day if it´s about broader tasks. This is why you categorize your to-do´s into “important” and “urgent” matters.
Make sure you automate these daily work habits. This is exactly the way you start becoming faster and more secure about what and how to do your daily tasks. This routine helps organizing your tasks to have it all done by the time it needs to be done. Avoid extension when not necessary. Be productive.
BE A DECISION MAKER. BECOME OUTSTANDING.
